One day after buying vegetables from the market, the vendor gave me a lot of fresh curry leaves for free. After coming home, I used some for cooking but still had plenty left. That’s when my sister suggested making this karuveppilai laddu. She told me she regularly eats it as part of her healthy diet and personally felt it supported her hair health and PCOD journey.
So I also tried making these simple laddus with curry leaves, almonds, dates, coconut, and a little ghee. I stored them in an airtight container in the refrigerator, and they stayed good for around 15 days.
I have been eating one laddu daily in the morning on an empty stomach , and now it has slowly become part of my routine. It feels homemade, naturally sweet, and satisfying without feeling too heavy. Personally, I enjoy this much more than regular processed sugar laddus or packaged sweet snacks.

Ingredients for Karuveppilai Laddu
- 2 handfuls fresh curry leaves (around 200 grams)
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 20 almonds (badam)
- 3 cardamom pods
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- 15 No’s seedless dates
- 1 to 2 tablespoons ghee
How to Make Curry Leaves Laddu (Step-by-Step)
Step 1 — Wash and Dry the Curry Leaves
Wash the fresh curry leaves thoroughly in water to remove dust and dirt. Spread them on a cloth and allow them to dry completely to remove excess moisture.

Step 2 — Roast the Grated Coconut
Heat a pan on low flame and add the grated coconut. Dry roast for a few minutes until the moisture reduces and the coconut turns slightly aromatic. Do not overbrown. Transfer to a blender jar and allow it to cool.

Step 3 — Roast the Curry Leaves
In the same pan, add the dried curry leaves and roast on low flame until they turn crisp and allow them to cool slightly.
Note : You can also use sun dry leaves

Step 4 — Blend Coconut and Curry Leaves
Add the roasted curry leaves to the blender along with the roasted coconut. Blend into a coarse powder mixture.

Step 5 — Roast Almonds and Spices
Heat 1–2 tbsp ghee in a pan. Add almonds, cinnamon stick and cardamom pods. Roast until the almonds turn light golden and aromatic.

Step 6 — Add Dates and Blend
Add the roasted almonds, cinnamon, cardamom and seedless dates into the blender jar with the curry leaves mixture. Blend everything together until the mixture starts coming together.

Step 7 — Shape the Laddus
- Transfer the mixture into a plate , add some 1/2tbsp ghee (optional) mix it and take small portions of the mixture and press firmly between your palms to shape into round laddus. If needed, grease your hands lightly with ghee.
- Store the healthy curry leaves laddus in an airtight container. Enjoy them as a healthy homemade snack anytime during the day.
Note : After shaping the laddus, allow them to rest at room temperature for a few minutes. Since the mixture is blended while still slightly warm, cooling helps the laddus firm up better before storing them in an airtight container.
